George graduated from Moody Bible Institute in 1961 and Millikin University in 1963. George entered the financial services industry with Investors Diversified Services (IDS) in May of 1963, where he subsequently earned the designation of Financial Correlator. In August of 1972, he began offering tax-deferred investments and financial planning to university faculty and staff throughout Northern Illinois. In June of 1982, he opened Bates Securities, Inc., a general securities broker/dealer firm which is a member of the Financial Industry National Regulatory Authority (FINRA). In 1984, George started George E. Bates and Associates, Inc. (now Bates Financial Advisors, Inc.), which is registered with the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC). In 1985, he was granted his Certified Financial Planner™ designation and became a member of the Institute of Certified Financial Planners (ICFP).  In addition, he is a licensed insurance broker and agent conducting business through Bates Financial Services, Inc., a corporation founded in 1992.

George has been married to his wife Carol since 1962, and they have three children, eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.  For those of you who do not know George, his clients are like family, and he wants to continue to service his clients for as long as God allows it because he loves what he does and has no plans to retire EVER.  George also enjoys breeding and raising horses and traveling across the country to see his clients and partake in the beauty God created.
